Business Opportunities at Denver International Airport

Source: DIA WingTips Newsletter, September 2010 issue

"Big Numbers = Big Opportunities

Two hundred forty million, 50 million, 176,000, and 1,500 are four reasons why owning a business at Denver International Airport is so exciting.

By 2015, 80 percent of the current concession contracts (retail, dining, and service businesses) will expire at DIA. So, the airport is urging anyone interested in opening a unique and vibrant (and profitable) business at the airport to sign up on DIA’s Web site for e-mail notifications of upcoming business possibilities.

So, what are the big numbers all about?

-$240 million were generated in 2009 by DIA concessionaires
-50 million-plus passengers travel through the airport yearly
-176,000 square feet of concession spaces are located throughout DIA
-$1,500 per square foot in sales were achieved by airport concessions

To get information about DIA’s concessions program and to sign up to be notified of all upcoming airport opportunities, send your message to this e-mail address: concessions@flydenver.com."

For business support services and information, please contact the DIA Business Assistance Center, (303) 342-2580 or lynn.sargent@denvergov.org.

Grants for Qualified Small Businesses

"The Department of Energy is accepting Phase I grant applications from qualified small businesses for the FY 2011 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program.

Small businesses with strong research capabilities in science or engineering in any of the research areas sought in the announcement are encouraged to apply. The FY 2011 SBIR/STTR Phase I Funding Notice is available at http://www.grants.gov/ , click on Apply for Grants, then click on Download a Grant Application Package and enter the Funding Opportunity Number: DE-FOA-0000413.

The deadline for receipt of Phase I grant applications to either program is November 15, 2010, 8:00 p.m. EST. All applications must be submitted through Grants.gov. Additional information is available on the DOE website at www.science.doe.gov/sbir. Applications will only be accepted electronically through Grants.gov.

**** IMPORTANT ****

Applications must be submitted through Grants.gov to be considered for award. You cannot submit an application through Grants.gov unless you are registered. If you are not registered, please read the registration requirements in the announcement carefully and start the process immediately.

REMEMBER YOU HAVE TO UPDATE YOUR CCR REGISTRATION ANNUALLY.

If you have any questions about your registration, you should contact the Grants.gov Helpdesk at 1-800-518-4726 to verify that you are still registered in Grants.gov. After you submit your application through Grants.gov, it is important for you to check the status to ensure your submission was successfully received.

DOE will not accept applications rejected by Grants.gov.

Registration Requirements: There are several one-time actions you must complete in order to submit an application through Grants.gov (e.g., obtain a Dun and Bradstreet Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number, register with the Central Contract Registry (CCR), register with the credential provider, and register with Grants.gov).

See http://www.grants.gov/GetStarted. Use the Grants.gov Organization Registration Checklist at http://www.grants.gov/assets/OrganizationRegCheck.pdf to guide you through the process. Designating an E-Business Point of Contact (EBiz POC) and obtaining a special password called an MPIN are important steps in the CCR registration process. Applicants, who are not registered with CCR and Grants.gov, should allow at least 21 days to complete these requirements. It is suggested that the process be started as soon as possible."
